Rampage: Universal Tour is an arcade action game developed by Avalanche Sofware, which is a direct continuation of the Rampage World Tour published in 1997. The creators put new heroes into the hands of the player and this time enabled them to demolish other planets as well.
Story
The heroes of Rampage World Tour George, Lizzie and Ralph are captured. They are taken captive in New York, Tokyo and London, respectively. Meanwhile, Scumlabs resumes its crazy experiments in Salt Lake City. Soon an accident occurs, as a result of which another three mutated monsters are released: Boris the rhinoceros, Curtis the mouse and Ruby the lobster. All three set out to help their imprisoned brothers, destroying subsequent metropolises along the way. Unexpectedly the planet is attacked by aliens. The last hope of mankind are the monsters that have been wreaking havoc earlier.
Mechanics
Rampage Universal Tour is based on the formula well known to fans of the series. Again, players can control huge monsters and destroy several cities on maps prepared by the authors. This part is distinguished from the previous ones by the presence of several monsters on the map at the same time, which introduces an element of competition and forces us to demolish subsequent objects faster and with a dose of tactics. Additionally, the devs have prepared levels not only on Earth, but also on other planets and in fictional agglomerations of foreign civilization. In total, the devs have prepared more than a hundred different maps, and for fans of multiplayer fun, they have created a competition module for the greatest destruction for two players.
Each of the heroes of the game has at their disposal a set of ordinary attacks and a special ability, which requires a special bar to be charged in advance. Monsters can also use a dozen or so power-ups, which restore health points or increase their strength. All this makes it a little easier to fight the defending armies of the metropolis.
Technical aspects
Rampage Universal Tour has retained the specific, slightly caricaturical style of the series, but has also introduced many graphic novelties. These include much more detailed character models, as well as changing weather conditions. An interesting fact is the presence of authentic objects from different cities, such as the towers of the World Trade Center in New York or the White House in Washington.
