Apocalypse is the first game developed by Neversoft, later devs of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Guitar Hero. The title is a third-person shooter that stands out thanks to the commitment of actor Bruce Willis to provide his image and voice to the main character.

Story

Apocalypse takes place in a distant future, in a space colony. A brilliant scientist creates a religious cult based on condemnation of technology and faith in the imminent apocalypse. His followers do not know that their idol uses officially condemned achievements of science to actually cause the end of the world. The only hope for the survival of the space facility is Trey Kincaid, a former companion of the scientist who decides to speak out against his former colleague.

Mechanics

Neversoft's game at the time of its launch stood out above all due to its controls, which over time became the foundation of the game genre known as twin-stick shooters. To move the main hero, the player uses the left analog stick, while aiming and shooting is done by tilting the right stick.

In addition, the protagonist is also able to jump and crouch, and an arsenal of quite a variety of weapons has been put at his disposal. The game itself consists mainly of completing vast levels and fighting numerous enemies. The action was shown with a camera behind Kincaid's back.

Other

Initially, the character, whose image Bruce Willis had provided, was only to be the companion of another main character. Shortly before the release of the title, however, the devs decided to make Trey Kincaid the protagonist of the game. The change was introduced so late that there was not enough time to make the appropriate changes in the script or to record new lines, as the result of which the main character during the game often speaks in a strange way, as if he spoke to a non-existent partner.
