Puzzling Places is a puzzle game prepared for virtual reality sets. The game, in which we arrange 3D puzzles presenting various objects from different parts of the world, was developed by the Realities.io team, specialising in the use of photogrammetry technology.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Puzzling Places has simple rules. Just like in standard puzzles, here we get images broken into smaller fragments (their size and number in a given puzzle depends on the selected difficulty level), which we have to put together. The difference is, however, that the puzzles are not 2D, but are fragments of 3D photogrammetric scans of various objects and places. These include the Devil's Slide Bunker in California, the Aizuwakamatsu Castle in Japan and the Tatew Monastery in Armenia. There is also a Polish accent in the form of the market square in Gliwice, which is waiting to be laid. The gameplay is made even more attractive by the fact that as we connect the pieces together we somehow bring the whole puzzle to life, gradually producing new sounds of the environment.
Technical aspects
Puzzling Places requires VR goggles and motion controllers to work. Moving the head, we look around, while controllers are used to grab, move and combine puzzles and rotate them. The game pleases the eye with nice graphics, which is due to the use of photogrammetry technology, and a good sound layer, which consists of both ambient sounds characteristic of the place and calm, relaxing music.
