Strategy
March 24, 2016
A turn-based strategy game developed by Koei Tecmo. The action of the title takes place in Japan during the Sengoku era (years 1467-1573). Similarly as in the previous installments of the series, the main part of the game are the story campaigns in which the players can learn about the history of various actual people such as Yukimura Sanada, Masamune Date or Ieyasu Tokugawa. More than two thousand of playable characters appear in Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence – Ascension. The story tells about the events that led to the birth of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The gameplay is turn-based and concentrates on managing one’s fief, providing the army with technology, training soldiers, trading with neighbors and waging wars. Naval battles and sieges are a novelty in the series. The player can even start his carrier as a regular officer who climbs the ladder of the military career. The game features high-quality (for the genre’s standards) graphics.
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2
Strategy
December 3, 2015
A side installment belonging to the legendary series of turn-based strategy games that use the name of Sid Meier as a trademark. While the previous Civilization Revolution was created mainly for the more popular home consoles, Revolution 2 was developed specifically for mobile device and PlayStation Vita owners. Similar to the previous installments, the game casts the player in the role of a leader in control of a civilization of their choice. The player's goal is to achieve global domination. The game begins in ancient times, with the player having little resources and few territories. Over time, the player develops technology, expands towns, recruits armies and obtains new territories - lands conquered have to be governed appropriately as well. Civilization Revolution 2 offers additional units, technologies, buildings, wonders, as well as previously unavailable leaders. What is also new, is the scenario mode, allowing the player to participate in various historical events, such as famous battles. The game offers three-dimensional visuals.
Twilight Struggle
Strategy
cancelled
A digital adaptation of the strategy board game created by American company GMT Games. Twilight Struggle takes place during the Cold War and the player assumes the role of a leader of one of the two empires – USA or USSR. The game is played in turns on a global map. The rivaling sides are playing with cards that trigger events beneficial for one, either, or neither side of the conflict. The cards can be used for things such as strengthening one’s position, at the cost of the opponent, or technological development. At the same time both sides must be careful as escalation of the conflict can lead to a nuclear holocaust. The “What if?” mode is an interesting addition. It allows playing in an alternative reality in which, for example, whole Berlin was conquered by the western nations and the elections in England in 1945 were once again won by Churchill and his conservative party. The base of the gameplay in Twilight Struggle is a rivalry between two players, but there is also a single player mode available, in which one faces artificial intelligence.
