An independent retro RPG, which combines elements of a detective game and a horror. The main protagonist of Pixel Noir is trying to solve a mystery of the tragic events from a decade ago when his partner died, leading to him quitting work as a police officer, as he unjustly was sentenced to jail. After being released, he begins to work as a private detective and tries to solve minor cases, until finally, he finds a lead that might help him get the answers that have been taunting him for years. As befits a true RPG, in Pixel Noir, the players get to explore numerous locations, interact with NPCs, find clues, collect valuable items, and fight enemies. Combat is turn-based, nonetheless, it features certain arcade elements. The main protagonist is accompanied by other characters, each one exhibiting unique skills and utilized weapons. Pixel Noir delivers neutral and grim pixel-art visuals.

Unusual combination of classic roguelike production with elements of adventure and puzzle games. The game was developed by Spry Fox, an independent studio so far known mainly from social games. It was inspired by Robert Frost's poem of the same title. The action of the game takes place in mystical forest full of dangers and the player becomes a guard whose task is to find lost children. Gameplay boils down to exploration of randomly generated levels, interaction with the environment and solving puzzles.

Shovel Knight is a classical 2D platform game with elements of adventure and RPG, set in fantasy world. The title is a debut of the independent studio Yacht Club Games, hiring, among others, former employees of the experienced Way Forward studio. In the production, we impersonate a titular knight who, with the help of a legendary shovel-like weapon, fights the mysterious members of The Order of No Quarter. Traversing subsequent locations, our hero faces scores of enemies, including difficult bosses. Interacting with certain elements of the environment, he solves series of puzzles, facilitating the completion of a given level. Gameplay is modeled after classic platform games like Mega Man and Castlevania. Its old-school character is emphasized by pixel-art graphic design. The game lets you play alone or in a local multiplayer mode for up to 4 players.

An old-school logic game featuring elements of adventure and platformer games. This is the debut of the Triple Eh? studio led by Gareth Noyce. Lumo pays tribute to various games from the 80s and 90s. The gameplay consists of exploring over 400 different chambers, where the player mainly solves puzzles, avoids traps and discovers secrets. The game is played from the classic isometric view, and the player observes only a section of the location they are visiting at a given time - it can be a platform, a room or a corridor suspended in mid-air. It is relatively difficult to make progress in the game. Despite the fact that Lumo makes numerous references to the classics of the genre, it offers modern-day visuals with impressive lighting effects and high-definition textures.

An enhanced version of Gods Eater Burst that – unlike the original – also appeared on PC and the PlayStation 4 console. God Eater Resurrection is set in a post-apocalyptic world, in which humanity’s habitat on Earth is threatened by appearance of powerful monsters known as Aragami. Players take control of a teenager, who joins an organization dedicated to extermination of those beasts. As we progress through story campaign, we follow the protagonist on his or her way from a novice to a squad leader and watch as they change the course of the entire war. God Eater Resurrection bases on an arcade battle system. After their character is created, the players’ party is dispatched on missions, most of which comes down to battles against giant beasts. Weaponry can be used in four different modes, acting as a firearm, a melee weapon, a protective shield, or as a giant beast wielded by the player. Additionally, God Eater Resurrection offers new plot threads and improved visuals.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night

The story of Persona 4: Dancing All Night begins six months after the events of Persona 4 — Rise Kujikawa went back into show-business, but soon a rumor spreads, saying that there is a mysterious music video, which sweeps those, who watch it at midnight to the “other side.” The gameplay is based on dance battles, and the story is shown in the cutscenes between them. To win, you need good reflexes, precision, the ability to perform flawless series of moves in accordance with the rhythm. Like the previous games in the Shin Megami Tensei series, the 3D visuals in stylized like a manga. The game features a soundtrack consisting of remixes by e.g. Tetsuya Komuro and Daisuke Asakura.

An action game developed by Japanese studio Aquire. Gameplay mechanics of Akiba’s Beat are similar to the previous production of the developer – Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed. It combines RPG, beat’em up and visual novel features. The second installment of the series once again takes place in one of the most famous districts of Tokyo – Akihabara. The citizens of the district are caught in a time loop due to which they are endlessly repeating one day. The player assumes the role of young man named Asahi Tachibana. He travels through the streets and meets many NPCs with whom he can form a team. The team is needed during battles played on separate arenas. The battles are strongly inspired by the beat’em up genre – it is action based and very dynamic. Each character has unique style and equipment. What make the game even more interesting are various headsets which strengthen the attacks of the characters and give access to new combinations of attacks. Akiba’s Beat offers colorful, three-dimensional HD graphics.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X

The seventh installment in the arcade music game series by SEGA. To play the game you need a good sense of rhythm and quick fingers to push the buttons appearing on screen. As usual, the main characters are the virtual vocalists, Miku Hatsune being the most prominent. Their digital voices are generated by professional music software, which has been used by fans to create thousands of songs from many genres; several dozens of them make an appearance in the game. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X is the first title in the series featuring a story campaign, in which you help Miku and other characters discover the digital idol world. As the game progresses, you unlock new cutscenes and events, similar to the previous installments. The production features several hundreds of outfits and accessories for the characters, and completing an outfit matching a song gets you a bonus. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X utilizes the same graphic engine as the other games in the franchise, although its visuals are better.

Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight

Another entry in the series of action music-rhythm games that utilize the soundtrack from the main entries of the jRPG Persona series developed by Atlus. The gameplay mechanics are based on simple principles and – similarly to other music games – focus on pressing buttons at the right time, when their symbols appear on the screen. Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight features several gameplay modes, including a visual novel story campaign that takes place in Persona 5 universe. The game uses the engine and technology from the fifth main entry in the Persona series. The game features a few dozen of tracks from Persona 5, some of which are remixes created by various artists. The developers also included some completely new songs as a bonus.

A combination of an adventure and a platform game developed by an independent German studio called Behind The Stone. The game takes the player to a fantasy realm of Gluttington, which faces a grave danger as an evil witch known by the name of Hysterice was able to poison the entire land with a bitter lemonade. Luckily, the people of Gluttington can count on the main protagonist, who grabs his sword and sets off on a dangerous quest to put an end to the witch’s intrigues once and for all and occasionally eat some donuts. In Sir Eatsalot, the player observes from the side perspective how the main protagonist traverses thirteen consecutive stages, solves environmental puzzles, and fights multiple enemies. The game delivers pleasant colorful visuals featuring cartoonish style – interestingly enough, solving the puzzles designed by the developers requires the player to utilize the unique features of the Sony console, such as the touchscreen and motion sensors.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards

The last expansion to the well-received game Shovel Knight. Both the add-on and the base game have been developed by Yacht Club Games. The main protagonist of the expansion is the titular King of Cards, who is one of the bosses the player has to fight as the Shovel Knight in the base game. The main protagonist has to prove their rights to the crown by defeating three usurpers from the neighboring lands. Similarly to the base game, Shovel Knight: King of Cards is a 2D platform game with RPG elements. The new hero fights and moves in a different manner than the previous protagonists - he mounts a short charge, which stuns the enemies and destroys some of the obstacles on the map. He also has a special ability - he can perform a pirouette on enemies' heads multiple times. As one progresses through the story, the character acquires more powerful weapons, armor, and new companions. An interesting element of the game is a minigame, in which one can play cards with NPCs. The gameplay revolves around the story campaign, which is well complemented by special challenges, in which one can test their skills in platform puzzles as well as combat.
