Azkend 2: The World Beneath
A puzzle game of the genre "combine three elements", enriched with a simple storyline layer inspired by the work of Julius Verne. During the game we get to the title world inside the Earth, and our task is to find a way to escape and return to civilization.
Azkend 2: The World Beneath is a puzzle game, employing the popular match-3 mechanics, enriched with a simple storyline inspired by Julius Verne's adventure novels. The title is a continuation of the 2009 Azkend , released exclusively on mobile devices, and both productions were developed by the Finnish studio 10tons, known mainly for the logic / arcade Sparkle series and the brutal shooter Crimsonland.
Story
The game tells the story of a hero whose ship was dragged into a giant whirlwind during his journey from Liverpool to New York. The protagonist woke up in a completely alien, underground world, about the existence of which nobody had known before. During the game our protagonist will have to find a way to escape the bowels of the Earth and return to civilization. In order to do so, however, it will be necessary to find a number of items.
Mechanics
The mechanics in Azkend 2: The World Beneath do not differ significantly from the typical representatives of the match-3 genre, although in the this game we do not move individual elements of the puzzle, but simply mark them. On each board, however, several basic requirements must be met, such as changing the background colour of all fields, removing blocked, frozen or invisible elements, or annihilating the appearing worms. As a reward for performing these activities we receive the item we need, which should then be moved down the screen.
During the breaks between successive stages of the game we gradually get to know the story and take part in a few additional mini-games. As we progress, we also gain various bonuses and skills (passive and active), making it easier to solve subsequent puzzles.
Game modes
Azkend 2: The World Beneath offers three gameplay modes for a single player, the most important of which is a 60-level story 'campaign'. In addition, we can also play the Time Challenge, where our task is to get as many points as possible in two minutes, and the Medals Challenge - where we can repeat any level from the story mode, fighting to get all the prepared medals.
Technical aspects
Azkend 2: The World Beneath features eye-catching HD graphics, and during the game we are accompanied by atmospheric, hand-drawn backgrounds and numerous animated scenes. The professional voice acting and soundtrack by Jonathan Geer deserve special mention.
