Darkborn Description
Project Wight for PC is an FPP action game with stealth elements, in which you play as a dangerous beast, representing a species at the verge of extinction and struggling to survive in a land of Vikings. The game was developed by an indie team The Outsiders, consisting of about a dozen members and located in Stockholm. The co-founder of the studio is David Goldfarb, who previously worked on Battlefield 3 and PayDay 2.
Plot
Project Wight is set in the alternative Middle Ages, in the Viking era, inspired by the legend of Beowulf. Apart from the Norse warrior, the rocky realm of Scandinavia is inhabited by a forgotten race of sapient beasts, the eponymous wights. You play as one of such creatures. At first, the protagonist is a adolescent creature, but eventually it grows up to be more and more ferocious.
Mechanics
The gameplay of Project Wight changes as the game progresses. At first the production seems like a stealth game, as the young creature is weak and incapable of fighting, so the only way to avoid death by a Viking sword or axe is hiding in the shadows and escaping to places humans cannot reach (e.g. narrow crevices). Later on, the beast learns new skills: it can run fast, glide and produce a deafening scream, and it grows more ferocious.
Technical aspects
Project Wight for PC utilizes the Unity engine, which generates detailed 3D visuals and realisting lighting effects. Because of the setting, the game features subdued colors, and the locations are often dark and shady.
