Mechanics

The PC Windows release of Partisans is a real-time strategy game that does not allow players to participate in grand battles – instead, the game revolves around the stealth gameplay model that became popular thanks to the Commandos series.

Players' protégés are always behind the enemy with their training, equipment, and strength in numbers, thus frontal assaults are bound to end with the deaths of all partisans. In order to succeed, one has to complete consecutive missions and avoid detection. Players have to mitigate enemy advantage with ingenuity, e.g. by knowing their surroundings, using the help of the locals, and setting traps. Also meaningful are the lighting and weather conditions.

The campaign takes place across several months, and the changing weather conditions affect each mission. Gameplay is even more diversified thanks to the survival elements – players have to gather supplies and manage them carefully as well as build a hidden camp to have a place for treating wounded soldiers, recruiting new resistance members and train the recruits.

Technical aspects

Partisans offers attractive 3D visuals featuring a bit cartoonish style. The subdued colors serve very well to translate the atmosphere of the in-game story.
