One Night: Burlesque is a visual novel adventure game, it's noir story mixing crime with supernatural abilities. It was developed by the Polish studio RedDeerGames, released on the PC and the Nintendo Switch.
Due to occasional sexual content, the game is aimed at mature audiences.
Plot
We play as Holly, one of the biggest stars of Angels Den, a luxury burlesque club. The seductive dancer has special powers, which she must suppress by taking special pills that protect her from madness.
Her life changes dramatically one evening, when she can't take her medicine and begins to hear other people's thoughts. This lets her find out someone's planning to murder her best friend. To prevent the crime, Holly must conduct her own investigation.
Mechanics
One Night: Burlesque is a typical visual novel. The player moves across static backgrounds, manipulates objects (such as preparing drinks) and talks to NPCs, choosing between different dialogue options. The game features many difficult decisions that affect the course of the story. Depending on our decisions, we'll see one of three possible endings.
The player can also make use of the protagonist's telepathy. Holly can sense the true intentions of the people she talks to and read their minds, though breaking through their mental barriers is often challenging. It's up to us whether we'll search for evidence like a regular detective or use telepathy.
Technical aspects
One Night: Burlesque features 2D black and white visuals, with other colors being rare but intense when they appear, and a dark soundtrack.
