Old World: Wonders and Dynasties

Old World: Wonders and Dynasties is an expansion to a 2021 grand strategy game, Old World. Like the base game, it was developed by Mohawk Games, also known for Offworld Trading Company.

Mechanics

Old World: Wonders and Dynasties doesn't revolutionize the base game's mechanics in any way, instead introducing new content. Said content is mainly new dynastic leaders and starting conditions for specific empires, resulting in thirty new ways to start the game.

The new leaders include the dictator Sulla, the mighty Nebuchadnezzar, who can acquire lots of land very early on, as well as Khufu, who comes with cheaper wonder building.

Speaking of wonders, the expansion introduces eight new ancient wonders, each granting additional modifiers. For example, the Jerwan Aqueduct generates free farmer specialists, the Jebel Barkal spawns a temple in every city, the Colosseum creates a new Swordsmam every five turns, while the Cothon creates a Trireme every ten turns and gives a free level to all newly created ships.

The expansion also introduces 100 new events (such as state dinners and assassination attempts) and 120 historical figures to interact with (such as Hannibal, Julius Caesar and Darius). Aside from this, there are also 21 new character traits.

Game modes

Like the base game, Old World: Wonders and Dynasties supports singleplayer and multiplayer, both online and hot seat.

Technical aspects

Old World: Wonders and Dynasties is not a standalone expansion, requiring the base version of Old World.
