Nuclear Throne Description
Nuclear Throne for PC, PS4 and PSV is a roguelike action game by Vlamber, a Dutch studio established in 2010. The developers are known for minor but crazy titles such as Super Crate Box, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, Luftrausers, or Ridiculous Fishing.
Story
The story, inspired by science-fiction movies from the 60s and 70s, revolves around mutants fighting for throne and control over the eponymous wastelands. We are taken to a post-apocalyptic world, full of dangers and anomalous creatures, and assume the role of one of several available “races”. Among them we can find a fish, crystal, bloodthirsty plant or... eyes. Originally, the game offered 8 different characters, but with time the list was expanded.
Gameplay
Nuclear Throne for PC, PS4 and PSV does not differ from other bloody roguelike shooters. We traverse the irradiated wastelands and eliminate numerous mutated creatures that we encounter. Our task is to clear out labyrinths that are packed with monsters. To do so, we use various equipment: from simple melee weapons to high-caliber guns. In the game, we also discover secret rooms and acquire new abilities that make our character grow stronger as we progress in the campaign.
Technology
The game is old-school not only in terms of gameplay mechanics but also graphics. It looks quite archaic, although its visual style and ubiquitous pixels blend in nicely with its remaining elements and thus create a harmonized total.
