Danger Scavenger is another game of independent Polish Star Drifters team. This time the studio known from Driftland: The Magic Revival joined forces with the developer from Krakow, Piotr Wolek. Together they created a shooter game in the convention of a cyberpunk roguelite based on the previous title of Piotr Wolek - Turbo Island Purger.
Plot
In accordance with the convention of cyberpunk, Danger Scavenger is set in the future, in a world ruled by heartless corporations. Worse, the artificial intelligence known as A.I.O.N.E. began to rebel against her creators. Ordinary citizens are not aware of these threats, but a few outcasts challenge the S.I. and suits. Killingly effective and well-trained, the Scavengers have to face a mechanical threat.
Mechanics
The world of Danger Scavenger is watched from top-down perspective, and the fun comes down to wandering through the roofs of skyscrapers guarded by more than 30 kinds of robots and their improved counterparts and demanding bosses. On every level we have to eliminate all our enemies with a variety of weapons, including a pistol, sniper rifle and flamethrower. In addition, we can use special abilities like area-based attacks, as long as we have enough energy points to use them. We also earn points during the game, and especially spectacular actions (for example, using environmental elements) will gain us additional bonuses.
Our style of play is determined by the chosen character, as each has a different specialty. Some people love to fight openly and sow destruction with heavy equipment like a flamethrower, while others have to bet on strategy or silent elimination of robots. On the levels you will also find new weapons and items with useful effects (including different types of drones), whether in the form of loot or to buy for scrap falling from defeated enemies.
After passing one level we can choose another mission. It usually comes down to a choice between easy but unprofitable tasks or more difficult challenges, for which we will receive much better rewards. The decision is important because, as a rogulite Danger Scavenger takes into account the permanent death system, and after the death of the hero we lose most of the improvements. The game also meets the genre standards with levels that are generated procedurally. As a result, no two runs are the same: each time we face slightly different challenges and find different equipment. Besides, the hero can only carry two weapons at a time, which forces a reasonable choice of equipment to cope with any challenge.
Game modes
Danger Scavenger allows you to play alone, but the creators have not forgotten about multiplayer mode. The game includes a cooperation mode where we face challenges in the company of up to three friends.
Technical aspects
Danger Scavenger uses a three-dimensional, slightly plastic graphic design, presenting us with a typical vision of the cyberpunk world of the future. So we have a bit gloomy buildings brightened up by coloured lights and explosions and other effects accompanying our actions. This is accompanied by atmospheric music by Polish electronic music composer Szymon Weiss.
