Nightingale Description
Nightingale is the debut project from Canadian studio Inflexion Games (a subsidiary of British company Improbable), headed by Aaryn Flynn, a former BioWare general manager who worked on Mass Effect and Dragon Age games. This survival game stands out with its fairy-tale realities, referring to the Victorian era with its quasi-steampunk atmosphere and characteristic look of costumes and equipment.
Plot
After a network of portals linking magical worlds with each other collapses, the survivors (i.e. players) wander between them in search of their lost home - the city of Nightingale. The lands they travel through, though they may seem beautiful, are teeming with hostile magical monsters. Portals that are still there after the catastrophe, the hope of finding an asylum, may lead closer to the goal or on the contrary - into the depths of a nightmarish labyrinth.
Game mechanics
In Nightingale we observe the action from the first person perspective. We explore fairy-tale locations in a variety of environments alone or with other players, at the same time providing ourselves with the means necessary to survive: building shelters, setting up farms, constructing weapons (cold or ranged - including weapons modeled on 19th century blacksmiths' guns) and tools - magical abilities of our characters are also helpful. We also meet NPCs on our way, who don't join our fight or quest, but give us information or give us missions. All the time we face a deadly threat from the fairy creatures, which not only hunt for our lives, but also destroy the buildings we've built. However, there is a possibility to establish peaceful relations with some of them - for example, by taming them with a gift.
Game modes
The open world of Nightingale is populated by players connected via a network, who can form groups and cooperate with each other or play solo.
