An extremely popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, produced by Riot Games. League of Legends is set in Valoran, a fantasy world that has been torn by a bloody war for centuries. However, the opposing nations found another way of resolving disputes – duels fought by their representatives in the arenas. The game has been designed with multiplayer mode in mind, based on rivalry between two teams composed of several people. Each player controls one character. The key to the victory lies in cooperation between the team members and the ability to make good use of the individual strengths of each character. The game is using free-to-play business model with optional micropayments for some items and features.

Online action game representing the popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre; developed by Blizzard Entertainment, initially as a mod for the cult RTS StarCraft II. The title takes us to a fantastic world of Nexus, where the best-selling Blizzard universes of Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft come together. In this world, we participate in online battles between teams of several people assuming the roles of well-known characters from the abovementioned games. Each of them falls under one of four classes – assassin, warrior, specialist, or support – and is characterized by their own set of unique skills. The teamwork is the key to victory. The 20-minute long duels taking place on different arenas have one goal: to take over the opponent’s base and not let them do the same with ours. The authors emphasize the user-friendliness of gameplay and control system, making the game accessible even for inexperienced players.

A mobile online game which combines elements of shooters and MOBA games. Brawl Stars has been developed by the creators of Clash of Clans, Hay Day, Boom Beach and Clash Royale. The game features only a multiplayer mode. The players get to select one of more then a dozen available characters, each featuring different weapons, assets, and a special ability, after which they enter arcade battles taking place in special arenas. As the player's character is developed, their battle potential increases. Brawl Stars offers several game modes, each introducing a different set of rules. In Smash & Grab, two 3-player teams fight each other with the objective of capturing the crystals that are growing in the center of the map. In Heist, two teams face each other and, in turns, defend a safe or try to rob it. The third mode – Battle Royale – allows up to 10 players to fight until there is only one character left alive. The last of the game modes is Bounty, in which one acquires stars for eliminating their foes and loses them each time their character dies.

A MOBA game with arcade elements, created by Hi-Res, a studio known from such productions as Global Agenda or Tribes: Ascend. Smite allows the players to direct the actions of mythological deities who fight team battles in thematically diverse arenas. The game is focused on dynamic duels, in which not only stats and skills of the heroes, but also reflexes and the accurate eye of the players count. In the technical layer, Smite is powered by Unreal Engine 3.0, which provides high-quality visuals. The game is free-to-play with the option of microtransactions, which means that some items and facilities may require a small fee.

A fantasy MOBA game (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) that combines elements of real-time strategy, action RPG, and action adventure game. This title was produced by Valve Software as a follow up to the popular Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos modification, Defense of the Ancients. Just like the original mod, Dota 2 focuses on clashes of two teams made up of up to 5 people, each one controlling one hero. The key to victory is the proper usage of the unique abilities of the heroes and cooperation. When it comes to technical aspects, the game is powered by the popular Source engine, the technology capable of hitting the sweet spot between visual quality and relatively low system requirements.

A mobile MOBA developed by an in-house developer studio of Tencent Games. Strike of Kings is a recreation of League of Legends, recreating all the mechanics and assets offered in the aforementioned game. The players are split into two teams (1v1, 3v3, or 5v5 matches) in which each player controls a single hero, equipped with a set of unique skills and abilities. Both teams are tasked with destroying the base of the opposing side, guarded by turrets and AI-controlled units, which requires cooperation and a skillful use of the available abilities. The game uses a free-to-play model with optional microtransactions.

An online battle game attempting to create a MOBA game in The Witcher universe. The title was developed by Fuero Games in cooperation with the team at CD Projekt RED. The gameplay focuses on short, dynamic battles of 3-member teams composed of characters known from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. Among them, we can find Geralt of Rivia, Iorweth, Zoltan Chivay, and Philippa Eilhart. Each character possesses a different set of skills and uses unique special items. In battles, the characters develop their talents and acquire increasingly powerful equipment; during rests, they can create potions, allocate talents, and so on. The game features several game modes and 3D graphics with an isometric camera. The game is based on the free-to-play formula but offers optional micropayments.

Total War: Arena lets you take part in massive battles for up to 20 players grouped into two rivaling teams. Each contestant has three units to command, consisting of no more than 500 men each. The crew of Creative Assembly have decided to lift up the historical boundaries, so that now armies from completely different periods and civilizations can fight in one battle. Gameplay is focused on cooperation between players and skillful use of unique abilities of individual commanders.

The story of King of Wushu is set in chaotic times following the downfall of the great Emperor, and the players take on the roles of warriors, who arrive to those stormy lands to prove their abilities in the fight for fame and the title of the King of Wushu. The game utilizes a third person's perspective and the gameplay focuses on battles between two teams of five people each, who try to destroy the opponents' base while trying to defend their own one. Every player controls one of the available warriors, who have their unique abilities, and to succeed you have to choose your characters so that they complement each other. The game blends basic MOBA elements with classic fighting game mechanics and utilizes the CryEngine technology, known from the popular shooter game series Crysis.

An online battle game that combines the features of MOBA and action genres. Battlerite was developed by Swedish studio Stunlock, the creators of Bloodline Champions and Dead Island: Epidemic. The game is focused on fast, intensive battles of two small teams of players. Each participant controls one character selected from a roster of unique warriors. During the game the protagonists are gaining experience and unlock new abilities. In contrast to classic MOBA games like Dota, Battlerite lacks any bases, towers or allied units controlled by artificial intelligence. Instead of that, the title provides open arenas on which the gameplay is focused only on PvP gameplay. The game itself offers an action-focused combat system. The action is presented from a top-down perspective and the mechanics are inspired by shooters and other action games. The crowd present on the arenas is an interesting addition – gaining its favor provides various rewards.

Like other productions of the genre, the Guardians of Middle-Earth combines RTS and arcade elements. Monolith studio is responsible for creating the title, and the publisher is Warner Bros. A sequel to a popular action-RPG with tower defense elements, originally released in 2011 as a debut game of indie developer Trendy Entertainment. In contrast to the first game, this one is based on the free-to-play business model, and offers two entirely different multiplayer modes. The first one is a traditional co-op, in which players of different skills and specializations join forces against waves of enemies of increasing difficulty. The other one is heavily inspired by MOBA games and focuses on competitive combat of two 5-person teams. Each team is tasked with destroying opponent’s turrets. The game introduces numerous technical upgrades, as well as new heroes and opponents. Both play modes share the same characters roster, and individual dungeons are connected by a common mini-world on the surface, where up to 24 players can be at the same time.
