Middle-earth: Shadow of Video Game Series
Middle-earth: Shadow of... is a series of games set in Middle-earth, a fantastic land known, among other works, for its The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. The series consists of a main series of action adventure games, developed for consoles and PCs by the Monolith Productions studio, as well as a spin-off for mobile devices in the form of a real-time strategy game, developed by the in-house development studio of Warner Bros. which is the publisher of the entire series.
Part One, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor), was released in late 2014 for desktop computers and PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles. The direct sequel, Middle-earth: Shadow of War (Middle-earth: Shadow of War), was released in October 2017 on PCs and PS4 and Xbox One consoles. The strategy game for mobile devices, bearing the same name as the second part of the main series, appeared on iOS and Android devices in late 2017.
The place of action of all installments of the series is Middle-earth - a fantastic land created by J.R.R. Tolkien and popularized by the screen adaptations directed by Peter Jackson. The free inhabitants of Middle-earth - primarily humans, elves and dwarves - have been plagued by ancient forces of evil for many centuries. Their personification is the dark ruler Sauron, commanding armies of brutal and ruthless orcs. From the point of view of chronology, the game universe takes place somewhere between the events of the The Hobbit a The Lord of the Rings, as Sauron returns to the dark land of Mordor to rebuild his vile army and invade Middle-earth again.
The main character of the series is Talion, a scout for the army of Gondor, the kingdom of men; the hero's job is to guard the entrance to Mordor. Both Talion and his family become victims of Sauron's servants. Captured and murdered as part of a dark ritual, Talion is bound to the mysterious specter of an elf who also suffered great wrongs at the hands of the dark ruler centuries ago. Thanks to the power of the specter, Talion is able to return to the world of the living, where Sauron and his servants begin preparations for another invasion of Middle-earth. Burning with lust for revenge for the wrongs suffered, the scout of Gondor and the spirit of the ancient elf set out together to Mordor to dispense justice.
In both parts of the main series, we observe our hero from a third-person perspective, and the bulk of the gameplay is spent fighting numerous enemies. Talion uses his sword brilliantly, blocking attacks and delivering deadly series of blows, and thanks to the power of his immaterial companion, he can at any time pull the bow, which the specter used when he was alive, out of the air and pierce several orcs with ethereal arrows. Over time, the player can upgrade his weapon with runes obtained from defeated enemies and gain new special skills.
The hallmark of the series is the Nemesis system, thanks to which our adventure becomes truly unique, and our successes and failures have a real impact on the game world. Sauron's army is composed not only of regular soldiers, but also commanders of various levels, each of whom has a randomly generated name and strengths and weaknesses. Before fighting such a champion, it is good to get to know his character, for example, by interrogating defeated privates. It is worth mentioning that a lower ranked orc can be promoted in place of a defeated commander, for example, as a reward for killing a player. Both privates and commanders can be converted to our side to help us in the fight against Sauron. By carefully selecting targets for elimination, we can even ensure that our agents are promoted to higher positions in the army of darkness. In the second part of the main series (Shadow of War) these mechanics have been raised to a higher level: there we can create whole armies out of scouted orcs, capture fortresses, occupy entire regions of Mordor, and assign governors to controlled areas. The game has thus gained strategic qualities.
Version Shadow of War released for mobile devices is a game even more reminiscent of RTS titles. In it we collect famous characters from the universe of the Lord of the Rings and command them in real-time battles, observing battles from a bird's-eye perspective. During the clash we are limited to a small squad of elite warriors, each with unique skills.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is a direct sequel to the well-received action-adventure game Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Just like the first game in the series, Shadow of War takes place in the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. The game is presented from a third-person perspective. We can explore the rich, open world of the game by riding various steeds and by taking good use of the free-running movement system, similar to that from the Assassin's Creed series. Once again the Nemezis system is one of the core gameplay mechanics. The game will automatically generate unique enemies which we will encounter, battle and optionally make them join us in our battle against Sauron. It needs to be mentioned that the game also offers many new features, with the possibility of taking over Dark Lord's keeps being one of them. There are more types of enemies for us to face, more new, unlockable skins and pieces of equipment.

Strategy

Middle-earth: Shadow of War for mobile devices is a strategy game based on the free-to-play business model with optional microtransactions. In spite of identical title as the action adventure game published on PC and consoles, it is an entirely separate project. The plot, however, is somewhat similar and focuses on the war between Sauron and a Ranger known by the name of Talion, who shares his body with Celebrimbor - an elven wraith. The game for mobile devices builds on collecting characters known from The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, and has the player assemble small teams to lead them to real-time battles. Each warrior features unique statistics, weapons, and special abilities, which when activated can turn the tides of a battle. Each character can be developed in terms of combat skills, which the player can adjust to their preferred tactics.

A TPP action game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was developed by Monolith Productions, the creators of Aliens vs Predator 2 and F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon. The plot takes place before the events depicted in "The Lord of the Rings". In the main campaign, players assume the role of Talion, a ranger who is raised from the dead by an ancient spirit of vengeance in order to take bloody revenge on the servants of Sauron for the death of his loved ones. The core of the game consists of spectacular battles with large groups of enemies, during which you can use a rich variety of ranged and melee attacks, as well as dodges. The audiovisual aspects of the game were modeled after the cinematic saga by Peter Jackson.
