An old school RPG by 68K Studios, created for mobile devices. The action of Mazes of Karradash takes place in the eponymous city, located in a typical fantasy world which is targeted by dark forces. After a long and uneven fight, the inhabitants of this world learned that the waves of opponents come from the extensive dungeon system under the city.
Mazes of Karradash published on AND and iOS is an old-school RPG developed by 68K Studios. The production draws inspiration from old PC dungeon crawlers from the 80s and the first half of the 90s, such as the Dungeon Master and Eye of Beholder series.
Plot
The action takes place in the titular city of Karradash located in a typical fantasy realm. The metropolis is under attack of the dark forces. Even though the dwellers are pulling out all the stops, they are still outnumbered. After a long, extensive search, they find out that the reinforcements of the evil powers come from a dungeon system situated beneath the city. The player assumes the role of a leader commanding a group of adventurers who set out to the dungeons in order to find and destroy the source of the invasion.
Mechanics
Mazes of Karradash is a dungeon crawler RPG which combines old-school mechanisms with modern elements cut out for mobile devices. The basic rules remain the same – there are massive dungeons to be explored, the first-person perspective, free movement, and a turn-based combat system.
Only if you play more will you be able to notice differences, as gameplay is highly seasoned with roguelike elements. The dungeon system is generated procedurally and you cannot revive characters, so each death is final and definitive. Because of that and the fact that the game is difficult, you die again and again, but even defeats can be fun, and the lessons you draw will pay off the next time you try.
Moreover, Mazes of Karradash released on AND and iOS offers strategy elements. Between raids, you visit the devastated city which you need to rebuild and thus earn access to new items and skills, and also to raise another generation of adventurers.
