A mobile RPG with strategy game elements that was launched simultaneously with the third major installment of the Mafia action game series. Just like in the latter, the action takes place in the 60s in the fictional version of New Orleans, where we assume the role of an ambitious gang boss whose task is to forge a criminal empire that will control the entire city.

Mafia III: Rivals for AND and iOS is an RPG focused on battle aspect. The production, developed by 2K Games, is free-to-play and offers optional micropayments.

Plot

Just like the title suggests, the game shares the setting with Mafia III for PC and consoles. The action takes place in the 60s in the city of New Bordeaux which is a fictional version of New Orleans. While playing, we have the opportunity meet many character known from other installments of the series, such as Lincoln Clay or Vito Scaletta, but the game is rather modest in terms of plot. The player simply assumes the role of an ambitious gang boss whose task is to forge a mafia empire that controls the entire city.

Mechanics

Mafia III: Rivals for AND and iOS is a battle RPG that involves fighting real-time battles in which we command a group of gangsters. We do not have full control over its members and only select equipment and targets.

Between the battles, we recruit new gangsters and develop their skills with experience points we collect in combat. Victories also provide us with loot that lets us buy better weapons and equipment. We can buy, among other things, firearms, knives, bulletproof vests, brass knuckles, and even cars.

The gameplay is enriched with a touch of strategy game elements. By winning battles, we take over sectors of the city, and various businesses located therein, which provides us with additional funds as well as other useful bonuses for the gang’s statistics, for example, increased damage.

Game modes

The game lets us compete against artificial intelligence but also with other players for valuable prizes and position in leaderboards.
