Killzone Video Game Series
Maintained in a science-fiction climate, a series of FPP and TPP shooters released exclusively for consoles produced by the Sony conglomerate. The developer of the series is Dutch studio Guerrilla Games, owned by Sony Computer Entertainment.
Brand Killzone debuted in 2004 on the PlayStation 2 console, collecting good, though far from perfect, ratings. Sony Computer Entertainment found the new brand promising, which was confirmed by the next installment in the series - Killzone: Liberation released two years later in a PlayStation Portable version. The real success, however, was the introduction of the series to the PlayStation 3 console, where the Killzone 2 (2009) i Killzone 3 (2011) gained blockbuster status.
The action of the games in the Killzone series takes place in the near future. Playing the roles of soldiers of the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance troops (Capt/Lt. Jan Templar in Killzone i Killzone: Liberation and Sgt. Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko in Killzone 2 i Killzone 3) players follow the fate of the war against the Helghan Empire.
With the exception of Killzone: Liberation, where a third-person perspective (TPP) view was used, all games in the series are classic first-person shooters (FPS). Among the strengths of the series is an extensive multiplayer mode with multiple gameplay variants and varied maps.
On the technical side, the series is based on a proprietary engine designed strictly for the capabilities of PlayStation-branded platforms. This translates into high-quality visuals of the games, which are often offered in starter kits with the console as "showpieces."

The fourth full-fledged installment in the Killzone series developed by Guerilla Games. Killzone: Shadow Fall is the series’ debut on the 8th generation console – PlayStation 4. The game’s story takes place 30 years after the events presented in Killzone 3 – two feuding factions, Helghast and Vektans, coexist on one planet, each faction inhabiting its predefined zone divided by a sturdy wall. Players assume the role of Shadow Marshal – a member of a unit tasked with maintaining the fragile peace between the two factions. Unlike the previous Killzone installments, Shadow Fall stands out with its non-linear gameplay and open world, which allows the players to carry out a number of missions in any given order. Apart from the traditional arsenal, in combat, one can use a wide variety of futuristic gadgets and abilities, which facilitate moving around the maps. The entire experience features clearly improved visuals, which utilize the potential of PlayStation 4.

This time, the player becomes a completely new character – Sergeant Tomas “Sev” Sevchenko – and is tasked with a counterattack against the enemy Helghan faction and capturing their leader, Visari, so he can be brought to justice. As the game debuts on next generation of consoles, the sequel offers great improvement in terms of visual quality, fully destructible environment, dynamically changing weather conditions and improved artificial intelligence – both of enemies and our allies on the battlefield.
