Jotun for PC, SWITCH and etc. is a Kickstarter project developed by Thunder Lotus Games – a studio set up by Will Dube. The production was initially published on PC in 2015, then it was ported to other platforms as Jotun: Valhalla Edition which included an additional game mode Valhalla Mode.

Plot

Players are presented with a story of a Viking warrior Thora who died an inglorious death during a battle. Before she passes through the gates of Valhalla, she needs to prove the Gods that she is worthy.

Mechanics

Gameplay in Jotun put out on PC, SWITCH and etc. utilises an isometric view. Players take control of Thora who travels through the Nordic purgatory composed of nine levels. She is looking for runes which would enable her to release and defeat powerful elementals called jotuns. Together, there are five of these huge creatures and she can only use a massive two-handed axe to fight them. During the game, you also come across various secrets and learn about the heroine’s life and the cause of her death.

Technical aspects

One of the biggest highlights of Jotun on PC, SWITCH and etc. are hand-drawn visuals filled with references to Nordic mythology. Moreover, the title features not only an excellent soundtrack composed by Max LL, but also dialogues recorded in Icelandic, which makes the title more immersive.
