Inversus is an arcade game that combines strategic elements with two-dimensional shoot'em up mechanics. The developer of the title is Hypersect a small studio from Seattle, USA, for which it is the first commercial project. Even before the launch, Inversus was repeatedly awarded in competitions for independent artists and met with a warm reception from the critics.
Mechanics
The action of Inversus takes place on a two-dimensional board covered with a grid of white and black squares. Players control small, also white or black vehicles, which can only be present in fields of the opposite color. By firing projectiles, we can change the color of the squares in front of us and create paths on which we can move. Enemies have a weapon of the opposite color so that they can trap us in a small space or destroy us. Despite the simple premise, the game requires us to think and apply different strategies, as well as to react quickly to the changing situation on the board.
Game modes
Inversus offers several types of gameplay. Arcade mode is designed for one or two people and consists of fighting against AI-controlled enemies. Players can also compete against each other in 1v1 or 2v2 mode, playing on one of the twenty-seven maps that offer a variety of challenges.
Technical aspects
Inversus offers a minimalist visual setting, which features only a few basic shapes and colors. The aim of the creators was to create transparent graphics, which do not distract the players' attention during the most intense moments of the game.
