Interkosmos for PC is a VR game developed by the Polish indie developer Ovid Works and it is the studio’s first game. The studio was established by the people who worked for Flying Wild Hog, CD Project RED, and CreativeForge Games.

The Plot

Interkosmos takes the players to 1970’s, a Cold War era when Space Race was happening. The game’s protagonist is an astronaut who travels back to Earth in Zvezda, an experimental pod that was designed for the purpose of reentirng our planet’s atmosphere. The pod is inspired by the actual space vehicles of the 70’s.

Despite the serious theme of the game (if we fail, our astronaout dies) the game is filled with a specific sense of humour. Interkosmos can surprise players with many plot twists and absurdities of the Cold War.

Mechanics

Action in Interkosmos for PC is presented form the first-person perspective (FPP). Our job is to safely get the pod back to Earth which is not as easy as one would think. We have to rely on help from the Roscosmos and NASA operators and have to do most of the things by ourselves. We have to adapt to difficult conditions of space travel, make swift decisions when necessary, and follow many procedures if we want keep our pod on its course. We will also have to maintain life support and power systems. All systems installed on Zvezda are interactive.

Even though the game cane be finished in thirty minutes, Interkosmos has a high replayability rate thanks to the many was we can kill our astronaut. Just like in many similar games, we can freely look around the pod, move our head, and use motion controllers to move our character’s hands.

Technical Aspects

Interkosmos for PC uses Unreal Engine 4. The pod’s cockpit is highly detailed, just like the view from our capsule’s window.
