The co-op action can be fun, but the rest of the game is just as dull and miserable as life in occupied America is portrayed.
Game Rant: 2 / 5 by Anthony Taormina
Homefront: The Revolution is a mediocre FPS that squanders an intriguing concept, but worst of all the game is not fun to play and overwrought with repetition.
The main pros of the game
- Graphics and Atmosphere: Many users praised the game's graphics, noting that the visuals, especially lighting effects and character animations, were impressive for a game of its age.
- Weapon Customization: The weapon customization system, allowing players to modify weapons on-the-fly, received positive feedback for its creativity and versatility.
- Engaging Story Premise: The game's setting and overall premise of a guerrilla resistance against an occupying force resonated with some players, drawing comparisons to popular films and other games.
- Open-World Design: Users appreciated the semi-open world environments that offered vertical mobility and alternate routes, creating a sense of exploration.
- Fun Gameplay Mechanics: Some players found the gameplay enjoyable, particularly the hit-and-run tactics and stealth elements, even if they were not fully realized.
The main cons of the game
- Poor Optimization and Technical Issues: A significant number of reviews mentioned performance issues including frame rate drops, bugs, and crashes, making the game feel unpolished and at times unplayable.
- AI Problems: The AI for both enemies and allies was criticized for being unresponsive or ineffective, leading to frustrating gameplay experiences.
- Repetitive Gameplay: Many players found the missions and overall gameplay to be monotonous, with a lack of variety in objectives and enemy encounters.
- Lack of Depth in Story and Characters: While the premise was intriguing, the execution of the story and character development was often deemed lackluster and cliché.
- Difficulty Balance: Some players felt the game was too easy, with enemies being underpowered and lacking strategic AI behavior.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Enhanced Stealth Mechanics: Many users expressed a desire for more effective stealth mechanics, noting that the system felt shallow and often unachievable.
- More Diverse Enemy Encounters: Reviewers pointed out that the game lacked enemy variety and that encounters often felt too easy or predictable.
- Improved Narrative Cohesion: Players wanted a more engaging and coherent narrative that better connected the story elements and character motivations.
- Better Resource Management: Some reviews mentioned the absence of a resource management system, making it too easy to stockpile ammunition and items.
- Multiplayer Content: The co-op mode was mentioned as lacking in maps and player engagement, leading to a quick decline in interest.
Summary
- Overall, while Homefront®: The Revolution has its share of strengths, particularly in graphics and some gameplay mechanics, it suffers from significant technical issues, AI shortcomings, and repetitive gameplay that detract from the overall experience. Many players recommend purchasing it on sale due to its mixed reception.

Homefront: The Revolution Description
Homefront: The Revolution for PC, XONE and PS4 tries a new approach to an FPS franchise which debuted in 2011 and gained significant popularity among the players, despite receiving rather mediocre reviews. This next title was developed by Dambuster (formerly Crytek UK), who stepped in for the creators of the first game, Kaos Studios. After the original publisher, THQ company, went bankrupt, the franchise was bought by Crytek and then Deep Silver company, making it possible to expand the series by another installment
Story
The story focuses around an imaginary conflict between North Korea and the United States. It's been four years since the USA has fallen to the invaders and the constantly growing forces of the resistance are preparing a huge revolution against the oppressor. You are thrown into the devastated streets of Philadelphia, where you join the local resistance and sabotage every major enemy objective in any way you can. The game features brand new characters who, either solo or in cooperation with others, try to hold their ground against a much more numerous and better equipped Korean army.
Gameplay
Unlike the previous game, which was linear in its structure, Homefront: The Revolution for PC, XONE and PS4 is set in an open-world environment. The order of missions and the way they are completed are mostly up to the player. As a member of the resistance you can recruit new people to aid your cause. Apart from dynamic combat, in which you use various weapons and vehicles, it is often necessary to go in guerilla style and keep a low profile while operating behind the enemy lines. Your hideout doubles as your headquarters; that's where you improve your gear and weapons in between missions.
Game modes
Apart from the main story campaign, which can be played in single player mode or in cooperation for up to 4 players, Homefront: The Revolution on PC, XONE and PS4 also features competitive multiplayer with several game modes available.
Technology
Homefront: The Revolution is powered by the CryEngine 4, enabling the game to truly spread its wings on the most powerful PCs and the eight generation consoles. This resulted in very detailed environments, superior sound and high quality visuals.
