Guild of Dungeoneering Description
Guild of Dungeoneering for AND, PC and iOS is a unique combination of a simple RPG and a card game. It was created by Irish indie one-man studio Gambrinous, existing since 2008. It's the first big production of the studio's founder. The game was published and promoted by an American company – Versus Evil, specializing in indie productions.
Mechanics
You play as a leader of a run-down adventurers' guild. Your task is to gain glory, gather riches, and put your competition down a peg. You start the game with one subordinate hero and basic equipment for your guild's headquarters. With the gold you gather, you buy new rooms and unlock new character classes, equipment and artefacts. To get the gold for the guild's further development, you send your heroes to the dungeons. In contrast to many other games, you don't control your hero in Guild of Dungeoneering, but construct a dangerous labyrinth around them, in which they move as they please. The dungeons are divided into empty spaces where you put your cards, which may contain fragments of corridors, treasures, and enemies. Some spaces are already occupied from the beginning by treasure chambers, which you need to link with the tunnels you are still “building.” The gameplay is turn based, and in every turn you select new dungeon and enemy cards.
When your hero find themselves on a space occupied by an enemy, turn-based combat begins, and the players are brought to the combat screen. During every turn, you select three attack cards and decide to play one of them. You hero's stats and available attacks depend on their character class and experience.
Technical aspects
Guild of Dungeoneering for AND, PC and iOS features interesting black-and-white visuals, inspired by sketches made during real-life RPG sessions. The soundtrack consists of catchy instrumental pieces.
