Mechanics
The production doesn't offer any deep story. The action takes place in a bizarre land which is a parody of stereotypical alpine regions. We control a huge boulder rolling down the slope of an endless mountain. Along the way, we must do as much damage as possible, which means destroying homes and trees as well as rolling over animals and people. The emphasis on the demolition gives a lot of joy and, at the same time, it is something that we rarely see in this genre.
There are also dangers such as cannons, spikes and chasms. We have to avoid them, which becomes more and more difficult with every meter. Fortunately, the authors remained faithful to the absurd stylistics which is also evident in terms of the properties of the boulder - it can jump. In addition, destruction fills the energy bar, and when it reaches its maximum, the boulder becomes insensitive to attacks for a few seconds and significantly increases its ability to destroy everything that stands in our way.
The development system, which allows improving the boulder, for example by equipping it with a higher jump, encourages to continue playing. Even developing all the features to the maximum level isn't enough to cause endless destruction. The slope never ends meaning that there is no way to win. Sooner or later, everyone, even the most talented player, will make one mistake too much and fail. The whole game is really about trying to get as far as possible to beat our records and those achieved by others.
Technical aspects
The big advantage of Giant Boulder of Death is the superbly absurd style of the graphics and the hilarious soundtrack, in which yodeling plays a key role.
