Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Online - First Assault is an online shooter in a cyberpunk setting. The title has been produced by Neople, Nexon's internal developer studio.

The production is based on the popular multimedia franchise Ghost in the Shell, which covers comics and animated movies, and specifically on the Stand Alone Complex animated TV series. The story takes place in 2030, at a time when a large part of the population has become cyborgs, enhancing their bodies with implants or completely abandoning human forms and transferring their brains into fully mechanical bodies. Most of the game is set in the fictional Japanese city of New Port. Public Security Section 9 takes care of safety of the residents of this metropolis. Comprised of former military personnel and police officers, its task is to fight cyber-terrorism. Its agents are not restricted by any laws, and their actions do not require prior approval of any part of the Japanese government.

First Assault concentrates on online battles recreating the clashes between Section 9 agents and the heavily armed and well-trained mercenaries. The game is a shooter, albeit heavily infused with hacking elements. Players control cyborgs and develop their combat abilities by modifying the mechanical parts of their bodies as well as by using acquired information. In addition, we are assisted in combat by Tachikoma robots, well-known to the fans of the TV series, which are small but heavily-armed machines with AI modules.
