Gathering Sky is an experimental arcade game for PCs developed by A Stranger Gravity. It is a game that does not support microtransactions.
Gathering Sky is a very short game and takes about one hour to complete. Players start the game with only one bird. They do not control it directly, instead, the animal follows the cursor - which means that too aggressive movements can be difficult for the bird to follow. As one progresses, more birds join up to the point when they become a numerous flock.
The movement limitations of the birds that follow the players are not the only obstacle. During the journey, air currents are also of great importance. The player has to learn to “read” them and use them to increase the flying speed. Gathering Sky does not have any traditional challenges or dangers. There are no additional classic mission objectives apart from reaching the end, either. The player may, however, search the entire map and collect all birds into one flock, but it is not necessary to complete any level. The game seems to be designed as a form of interactive mediation that allows the players to relax and spend several dozen minutes in pleasurable atmosphere.
The relaxing effect is achieved by great audiovisual aspect of the game. The full-2D locations impress with their style and level of details. The soundtrack is equally well-made, recorded with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
