Release Date: December 4, 2025
The fourth full-fledged installment in the best-selling action series Metroid Prime, owned by Nintendo. The story of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond takes place on the exoplanet Viewros. Once again, we can play as Samus Aran, equipped with psychic abilities, a diverse arsenal, a futuristic motorcycle, and an option to turn into a Morph Ball. We explore locations, fight enemies, and solve puzzles.
Metroid is one of the most important brands in Nintendo's portfolio and one of the productions that laid the foundation for the metroidvania genre. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond described here is the fourth installment of the subseries that began in 2002. It brings the characteristic elements of this series to the framework of first-person action-adventure games.
The adventure in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond takes us through diverse locations, including a sandy desert, icy wastelands, and a jungle. As we explore them, we solve environmental puzzles, fight opponents, and also search for clues, including scanning stone statues and ruins.
On our path, we encounter both regular adversaries in the form of aggressive creatures and much more powerful bosses. We make use of firearms on the battlefield. Besides that, the main character gains new psychic abilities (useful both in combat and while solving puzzles), and traversing the game world is enhanced by the Vi-O-La motorcycle.
As the protagonist's range of abilities expands with progress, it's worth returning to previously visited locations to discover areas and secrets that were previously overlooked.
In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond we take on the role of bounty hunter Samus Aran. The protagonist arrives on the unknown exoplanet Viewros, which was once home to the enigmatic race of Lamorn. The globe becomes the arena for her battle with Sylux, a fellow bounty hunter of Samus, who holds a grudge against both her and the entire Galactic Federation.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond review: A strong return with uneven new ideas

VGC: 3 / 5 by Andy Robinson
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond feels like a game stuck between two worlds. When it’s emulating the series’ past, Beyond is an entertaining, if overly conservative, sequel. However, as the shadowy corridors make way for open-world fetch quests, and Halo-style expeditions with AI companions, it’s left feeling like a diluted experience that doesn’t fully deliver on the spirit of earlier entries.
Shacknews: 9 / 10 by Donovan Erskine
Despite the fact that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is also launching on the original Switch, it truly feels like the proper showpiece for the Switch 2. The supreme gameplay design is beautifully complemented by the different input options, all of which are suitable ways to play through this adventure. The experience is bolstered by gorgeous visuals and spectacular performance regardless of how you choose to play. Outside of some boring downtime during forced traversal segments, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a premium experience.
Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Oliver Reynolds
After 18 years of waiting, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond manages to replicate that magical sense of discovery from the GameCube original while pushing the series in some incredible new directions. Separating the main biomes with a vast open world sounds ridiculous on paper, but the slick traversal provided by Vi-O-La makes exploration more satisfying than ever.Combine this with the stunning art direction, ferocious new boss characters, and a surprisingly endearing squad of Federation troopers, and Beyond is quite possibly the boldest, most well-realised Metroid game to date. Make no mistake, the long wait has been more than worth it. Welcome back, Samus.
