Madden NFL 18 Description
Madden NFL 18 for PS4 and XONE is a yet another installment in the popular (especially in the U.S.A) sports game series developed and published by Electronic Arts. Traditionally, the game allows us to control all the NFL teams; moreover, this installment introduces a story mode.
Plot
In FIFA 17 – another sports game developed by Electronic Arts – players for the first time in the series' history could experience a story campaign. A similar decision has been made when working on Madden NFL 18 – the game delivers the Longshot story mode, in which we get to know Devin Wade (portrayed by the American actor and model JR Lemon) – a former promising player, who had a 3-year break from playing football. Now, he has decided to try again to get to the NFL.
Mechanics
Madden NFL 18 for PS4 and XONE features improved ideas and solutions implemented into the previous installment of the series. The biggest novelty in the game is the story campaign, in which a player has to play consecutive matches and complete precise assignments. In between the matches, one can watch various cutscenes showing not only the situations on the playground but also Devin's personal affairs.
The developers have implemented new gameplay styles, which a player can adjust as they see fit. Arcade style offers the most spectacular form of entertainment. Simulation style is a gameplay model, in which one has to pay attention to players' stats before selecting them for a match. This poses a more significant challenge, as players are also determined by penalties, injuries, and other random factors. The Competitive style, however, is a mixture of the two aforementioned styles – it requires better skills than the arcade, however one does not have to pay attention to e.g. players' injuries.
The game also features an improved version of the Target Passing system. It works quite simple – a special indicator shows the spot where the ball is going to be thrown. Mastering this technique gives a player more opportunities when playing an action, however it is not as easy as it seems, even with the relatively simple controls.
Game modes
Madden NFL 18 for PS4 and XONE offers a number of various game modes, in which one can play alone or with other players. Apart from the story campaign, one can play exhibition games, manage a team in a league, or try out the popular Ultimate Team mode, which involves collecting players' cards and creating teams out of them.
Technical aspects
The developers from EA Tiburon have followed their colleagues responsible for the FIFA series and based their game on the Frostbite engine. The EA's flag technology has worked perfectly not only in shooter and racing games but also in the sports games.
