AFL Evolution
Another installment in the sports game series dedicated to Australian football. The title, developed by Wicked Witch Software, is a hybrid of sports and management simulations – while playing, we not only play matches but also take care of the team manager’s responsibilities.

AFL Evolution is a sports simulation game for PC, XONE and PS4 dedicated to Australian football. Contrary to 2011’s AFL Live, the title was developed by Wicked Witch Software, the creators of Rugby Challenge 3, among other productions.
Mechanics
The gameplay mechanics of AFL Evolution combine elements of sports and management simulation. It means that we not only play Australian football matches but also take care of a wide range of a team manager’s responsibilities. These include setting team composition and tactics for matches, taking part in drafts and making transfers, planning training schedules, negotiating contracts for our players and staff, and obviously balancing the club’s budget.
There are over 80 licensed clubs to choose from, both from the leading Australian AFL league and lesser ones such as VFL, TAC, NAB, U18’s, and others. Compared to the previous installments of the series, the developers introduced a number of new solutions that increased the game’s realism and recreate the thrill of the AFL matches even more realistically.
Game modes
The basic game mode in AFL Evolution is the career mode in which we create our own player from scratch – including looks, origin, parameters, and other factors – and then lead him through subsequent levels of his career: starting from a U18 player to an ALF superstar. Apart from that, we can play a full season with any of actually existing teams or face the artificial intelligence in a single match. AFL Evolution also features a multiplayer mode, which offers not only a competitive but also a cooperative variant (for two players within the same team).
Technical aspects
The graphics of AFL Evolution for PC, XONE and PS4 is a step forward in comparison with AFL Live, which was released for the past-gen platforms. While playing, we can enjoy realistic animations – both those of the players and the entire stadium – and suggestive sound effects that fully recreate the atmosphere of football competition. The extensive replay system that lets us analyze any action from different cameras also deserves a praise.
