Wargame: AirLand Battle Description
The success of the released in early 2012 Wargame: The Cold War made it possible for the team of Eugen Systems Studios to create its sequel. The developers took fan feedback to the heart in an attempt to create a game that would be better polished both in terms of gameplay mechanics, as well as the artwork.
Wargame: Airland Battle is set in the years 1975-1985, at the peak of the Cold War. Players have an opportunity to take part in fictional military operations of NATO and the Warsaw Pact conducted in Northern Europe (mainly Scandinavia).
A solo player can choose from a series of dynamic campaigns, showing hypothetical armed conflicts. You take the command of predefined troops representing the selected side of the conflict, and then try to accomplish specific tasks on a given territory. In addition to the single player mode, there are also several variants of multiplayer skirmishes, as well as a number of community features related to EugenNet service. Up to 20 people playing on a dedicated server can take part in an online battle; for smaller skirmishes you can put up your own local server.
Compared with the first installment of the series, Wargame: Airland Battle offers an even larger range of units. In total, there are over 750 types of vehicles and combat units, representing military forces of 12 nations. Airplanes make up a novelty in the game, which round up to 150 models ranging from fighters to bombers.
The role of aviation was significantly increased in Wargame: Airland Battle as compared with the previous installment, where only helicopters were available. Another improvement is a special module - Urban Combat Interface – which gives you better control over the fighting in urban areas.
The developers from Eugen Systems put a lot of effort into refinement of IRISZOOM engine. Using its potential made it possible to display much more detailed units and environments based on authentic satellite maps supplemented with topographic data.
