A continuation of the turn-based strategy Frontline: Road to Moscow which in 2014 stole hearts of mobile devices users, and a few months later also PC players. The second instalment for PC and iOS is developed by the same studio – 88mm. The creators were inspired by the classic war film from 1962 – The Longest Day.
Plot
The action is embedded on WWII Western Frontline and begins on 6th of July, 1944 – famous D-Day. Five campaign chapters recreate real events and battles from Operation Overlord during which, playing as Ally, you take part in fights over Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches, and port Cherbourg.
Mechanics
Frontline: The Longest Day is similar to its predecessor – during turn-based combats, the player can command over 100 types of land, marine, and air units, each having around 20 special skills and manoeuvres. The course of any battle is influenced not only by statistics of squads, but also the topography based on authentic maps from the war. With the progress, units gather experience point that can be spent on shaping army according to the player’s vision and play style.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Frontline: The Longest Day published on PC and iOS are similar to those from the original game or classic turn-based series like Panzer General. The title features the same engine cut out for playing with computer mice and touchscreens.
