Framing Dawes is a hand-drawn point and click adventure game from small studio Jinx-It Games. Alternate worlds, curses and inspiration from Alice in Wonderland are some of the elements of this dark fantasy tale.
Framing Dawes is a project from Jinx-It Games, an independent studio. It tells the story of a teenage girl who is cursed and, as a result, becomes entangled in a series of strange incidents involving kidnappings, paranormal aspects and the disappearance of a young boy. The grotesque and dark story is kept in the typical point and click adventure game convention.
In the game we play as Bay Dawes, a teenage girl who has been cursed. When she wakes up one day remembering nothing from the past 24 hours, her rabbit has risen from the grave, and to top it all off, her mother has been kidnapped, it seems like things couldn't get any worse. And yet, it turns out that a young boy has disappeared from the psychiatric facility and she is the one suspected of kidnapping and murdering him. Bay has no choice but to investigate on her own and get the boy back to the psychiatric hospital alive and unharmed to clear her name and free the mum who is being held hostage. She must do this before the end of the day. And so begins the adventure of Bay and Dink, which will take them on a journey to her hometown Foresight, hiding the entrance to a hidden magical world, where everything is possible.
The author of the game does not hide that she was inspired to create the game by works of pop culture, such as Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton's works or mythology.
Framing Dawes is divided into three segments, during which, in a way typical for point and click adventure games, we explore various locations either on foot or in a flying bathtub; we talk to colourful characters encountered during the journey such as a huge badger or a ghostly mermaid; but also solve various puzzles and riddles, for which it will be necessary to combine collected items in the inventory or cast spells. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) In addition, during the game we can temporarily change the playable character, whether it's Dink the rabbit or the heroine's mother.
Framing Dawes is a two-dimensional, hand-drawn production with a specific and cartoonish style, which is emphasised by the soundtrack.
