First Strike: Final Hour is an unusual real-time strategy about global nuclear war. The production debuted in 2014 on mobile devices, and three years later it was ported to PC. The game was developed by Blindflug Studios, which also has developed Cloud Chasers and Airheart.
Mechanics
This game is a global RTS. Players gain control over nuclear weapons of a single country and have to decide where to set it up and when to use it. The ultimate goal is to turn any other country into a desert burned by the power of the atom. It sounds gloomy, but the whole is maintained in a strongly abstract style, in which the use of weapons of mass destruction is an interesting tactical challenge and not a simulation of an apocalyptic horror.
The main resources are time and provinces on the map. You can perform one specific action at a time in a given province, such as building a rocket, conducting technological research, taking over neighboring regions and, of course, firing a missile, which can be used both to attack and shoot down someone else's missile. The guidelines may only be changed every few tens of seconds, so every order is a risk. For example, at a given moment a player may need a scientific project that will increase the range of the arsenal but must take into account that the price for this is to make a large part of the territory defenseless for the period of research. The game takes place in real time and the map is quite large meaning the game requires a lot of attention.
When you play First Strike: Final Hour for the first time, the game may seem simple and when you start playing as the United States, you don't have to make too much effort. But then we unlock the weaker countries and the level of difficulty begins to rise rapidly.
Game modes
First Strike: Final Hour only offers a single-player mode in which we compete against opponents controlled by artificial intelligence.
