F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0 is a simulator of the undetectable Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk tactical bomber. The title is the second installment of the simulation series, initiated by Microprose in 1987 with the game F-19 Stealth Fighter. It is worth noting that the protagonist of both games was the same plane - at the time of creation of the original Nighthawk was only a subject of speculation and speculation, and the F-19 model was never created in practice.
The F-117 was the first series-produced aircraft made in Stealth technology. Its hull was made of aluminium and titanium alloys and ceramic elements, and the surface was covered with a special coating to absorb radar waves. Despite the fact that the machine was already equipped with the US Air Force in 1982, it was a top secret project for the next few years, and the first photos of the plane were not published until the end of the 1980s. Although the name of the aircraft contains the letter "F", commonly used to designate subsequent fighter models, the F-117 was a tactical bomber, designed primarily for the precise elimination of strategic ground targets.
The game offers a number of scenarios - both purely hypothetical and based on real events such as Operation Desert Storm. The title is set in nine different parts of the world, such as Cuba, North Korea, Kuwait, Central Europe, Norway, Libya, the Gulf region, Vietnam and the Middle East. Most of the missions are carried out - as intended by F-117A - under the cover of night, and each of the tasks is preceded by an extensive planning phase, giving players considerable freedom in the choice of aircraft equipment and the way of completing the mission.
The creators of Microprose focused very much on realism, although the game allows you to choose between a traditional flight model, consistent with the real purpose of Nighthaw and a more arcade one, which offers a more dynamic action filled with duels in the air. The game faithfully reproduces the cockpit and the HUD of the machine, based on the authentic F-117 photos made public by the American army. Realism is also enhanced by graphics, which, compared to the first installment of the series, offers much more details and a completely new quality. The CD-ROM version has been additionally enriched with a fully animated intro and a number of intermittent scenes.
