The Digital Fix: 8 / 10 by Jason Coles
A great turn based strategy that has the soul of Advance Wars mixed with swords and magic. Along with the entertaining campaign the multiplayer is a blast and with both online and offline modes will keep you entertained for a long time.
NintendoWorldReport: 6 / 10 by Ty Edwards
At a base level, what is present in Exorder is good. However, some frustrations take away from what could be an otherwise pretty good or even great game. SRPGs should be about planning out your next move and not figuring out how to fix your unit going to the wrong place because of the twitchy “snap” movement as you pressed A. If you are a fan of SRPGs and you have some patience to work around these shortcomings, then this might be a good pick-up for you, otherwise you may want to find one of the better titles on the eShop.
GameSpace: 6 / 10 by Scott Jeslis
Exorder is a good turn-based strategy game that is not for the beginning militarist. The game has robust multiplayer support and welcome touchscreen support but its unrelenting A.I. might be more frustration than desired.
Exorder Description
Exorder is a turn-based strategy game developed by independent studio Solid9. The title was published by Fat Dog Games, a company that helps smaller studios in publishing their games.
Plot
Exorder is taking the players on a journey to a fantasy world. Chaos started in the realm of Cerulean after the king has died. Potential successors – princess Beyla and prince Tristan – must end the interregnum. To do it, the tradition orders them to fight each other for life and death. The winner will become the new ruler. What complicates things is the fact that neighboring countries are interested in the riches of the realm and are messing with the matters.
Mechanics
The action in Exorder is turn-based and shown from an isometric perspective. The gameplay is based on two pillars. The first one is the exploration of varied maps and taking over buildings and constructions. Among the latter, there are houses that generate gold, forts (there the players can recruit units), ballistae (they can shoot at enemies), and fountains that regenerate strengths.
The second pillar of the game is battles with enemies. During them, the key to success lies in properly selecting units and placing them on the battlefield in the way that provides the greatest advantage. The players can select from nine types of soldiers, supplemented with commanders (like princess Beyla). Each of them features a unique set of statistics that represent their strength and type of attacks (while some of them are ranged fighters, others are effective in melee combat), the effectiveness of counter-attacks, movement speed and number of health points. Some also have special skills like teleportation.
Game modes
The main gameplay mode in Exorder is a story campaign that contains twelve missions. Its main task is to prepare the players for a multiplayer mode where they can fight against up to three other players. Multiplayer battles can be fought via the Internet or by using the hot seat mode.
Technical aspects
Exorder features a three-dimensional, light, colorful graphics that are similar to ones used in Warcraft III. The catchy soundtrack supplements the visuals.
