Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Description
Quake Wars is another first-person shooter in the Enemy Territory series for PC, X360 and PS3, developed by Splash Damage in close cooperation with id Software. The product is meant for online play, although it also features a single player mode in which enemy forces are controlled by the artificial intelligence.
Plot
The action of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars takes place in 2065 which is before the events of Quake II. The Strogg, a merciless alien army lands on Earth with the aim of annihilating the humanity. An elite commando unit called Global Defense Force (GDF) takes up arms to defend the planet. Players can side with either faction.
Mechanics
The product offers over a dozen missions in which players perform predetermined goals that involve, among other things, defending key strategic outposts or frontal assault on enemy bases. It doesn’t mean that these are all available scenarios, though. The game is “open” to fanmade modifications that let users create their own missions.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars features a rich weapon arsenal which is unique to each side of the conflict. The GDF have conventional firearms such as machine guns, pistols, grenade and rocket launchers, while their cybernetic opponents bring a large variety of futuristic guns with them to Earth. The game offers opportunities to drive vehicles, starting with Hum-Vee, ending with giant mechs. The gameplay is focused on teamwork. Every soldier has specific tasks to perform—failure to fulfill them results in defeat of the entire team. Large diversity of classes (five for each faction) ensures that every FPS fan can find the right profession for themselves.
Technical aspects
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for PC, X360 and PS3 is powered by the Doom 3 engine which was additionally enhanced with the MegaTexture technology (also developed by id Software). Due to the fact that the action of the game takes place mostly under the open sky, the developers introduced a large variety of weather effects.
