Endling

Endling is an adventure game with survival elements. It was developed by the independent Spanish team Herobeat Studios, consisting of former employees of companies such as King, Atari, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts.

Plot

Endling takes place in the dystopian future - mankind's overuse of natural resources has led to environmental pollution, endangering the lives of wild animals. The playable character is a fox, who, together with her three cubs, heads out on a journey to find her fourth, abducted child. Along the way, she teaches her offspring how to survive in an inhospitable world.

Mechanics

Endling is a side-scroller. The player traverses several diverse locations, hunts prey and tries to avoid becoming one themselves, especially at night, when we need to be especially sneaky to avoid danger. Hiding places are important, as that's where we can safely spend time planning our next steps. As we progress through the game we start noticing differences between the cubs (each can learn different abilities), watch them grow and turn into formidable predators.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Endling are three-dimensional, kept in a cartoonish artstyle. The game's gloomy atmosphere is complemented by the scarce color palette, the devastated locations and the melancholic soundtrack.
