A fantasy-based adventure game with RPG elements. We play the role of an orphaned boy who, raised by simple farmers, learns the truth about his past. Learning the basics of fechment and magic, he decides to avenge the death of his father, the Dragon Knight, who died at the hands of the cruel Haagen von Diakonov.

Dragon Lore: The Legend Begins is the first part of a series of adventure games with RPG elements, the action of which is set in the reality of fantasy. In the game we play the role of a young boy looking for revenge on his father's murderer. French studio Cryo Interactive is responsible for the production, known to players from such titles as Dune or MegaRace.

The hero of the game is a boy named Werner von Wallenrod, who was orphaned years ago and given to raise in the hands of simple farmers. Entering adulthood, our protophile learns the truth about the past and his true origins. It turns out that his father, Axel, who once belonged to the elite group of Dragon Knights, died at the hands of the cruel Haagen von Diakonov, who insidiously seized the Wallenrod's family estate. The revenge-hungry boy decides to expose the murderer at all costs and regain what Haagen had seized. However, an inexperienced warrior will have to learn a lot more. With the help of Werner, who travels four distant lands and stands eye to eye with dangerous beasts, the player who plays his role comes to his aid.

The mechanics of the game is modelled on classic point-and-click adventure games and boils down largely to exploring, finding and using objects and conversations with characters we have no influence on the course of which we have no influence. Developers from Cryo Interactive, however, enriched their title with numerous battle sequences, realized in a similar way as in The Elder Scrolls cycle. There are also elements known from classic RPG productions - Werner von Wallenrod gradually assimilates the art of fencing and the secrets of magic, developing the skills necessary to survive in the dangerous universe of the game. He must also prove that he is fully prepared to follow in the footsteps of his father and join the ranks of the Dragon Knights.

We observe the story from the first-person perspective, moving in a jumping way, slightly reminiscent of the Myst series. The graphics of the game are created by high quality prerendered locations and three-dimensional characters of the characters. By using the capacity of the CD-ROMs, all dialogues in the game have been realized with the use of live actors.
