Might and Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven for PC is the sixth installment of the Might and Magic series, one of the most popular RPGs of all time developed by New World Computing, set in the world of Erathia. The best and the most extensive game of the saga is at the same time considered the most revolutionary one in history of the series.
Plot
Plot-wise, the game fills the plot hole between the second and third installment of the Heroes of Might and Magic series. The action takes us to the times when the royal dynasty of Ironfist began to crumble. Good king Roland disappeared, and the land of Enroth plunged into chaos. The apocalypse worshippers decided to overthrow the acting king, prince Nicolai, and place their leader on the throne. Meanwhile, the people of Enroth, unable to resist the oppressors, start to believe that their ruler has lost the eponymous Mandate of Heaven, which is the divine right to reign. Only a group of unusual an grave heroes can face the evil, reclaim the Mandate of Heaven, and stop the incoming apocalypse.
Mechanics
In this installment of the saga, we control a party that consists of four adventurers representing one of six classes typical of the universe. Contrary to the game’s predecessors, this time around, we cannot choose race since all heroes are human. Because we start out with low skills, the key element of the title is the character development system that offers a great deal of freedom. Experience is earned by completing a number of quests, both primary and secondary, and fighting various enemies. We can also select between turn-based and real-time combat modes.
Since four years separate this game from the previous installment, Might and Magic VI for PC is a great step forward in terms of visuals. The title features fully three-dimensional graphics. The new engine not only offers 360-degree rotation but also lets us look up and down. Moreover, seasons and a day-and-night cycle were introduced. Because of the narrative and, more importantly, technological gap, Mandate of Heaven doesn’t offer a save import feature.
