Dota Underlords Description
Dota Underlords is a free game based on the popular mod for Dota 2 - Auto Chess (the modification will also be made intor a standalone title). We are dealing with an eight-person online game very loosely inspired by chess. In Dota Underlords we will see characters known from the aforementioned MOBA game. The development and publishing of the game is the responsibility of the well-known Valve Software.
Mechanics
Clashes in Dota Underlords take place on square-shaped maps that resemble chessboards. Gameplay is divided into rounds - in each of them we choose the right heroes from the list. The player then decides which of them they want to place on the battlefield. Each character has their cost in virtual currency.
Warriors may belong to different specialties. What's more, heroes enter various types of synergies, resulting in powerful bonuses. The selection of heroes plays a key role in deciding on our strategy for the whole battle. We must make decisions quickly, because in each round we have limited time for choosing our lineup, and the characters are chosen from a common pool - the rival can beat us to a certain character, making it impossible to use our preferred tactics.
The selection of units is all the more important because the battles are played out automatically - we cannot directly control our heroes or even give them orders.
Game modes
Dota Underlords can be played solo or with others. In single-player mode, the gameplay is focused on competing against bots. What's important, the player can choose the right difficulty level (from easy to hardcore).
In multiplayer games we have a choice between two options - we can play in cooperation with other players (the role of the opponent is played again by a bot), or compete with up to seven other people in a classic multiplayer mode, in which our results are listed in a special table, enabling us to compare our achievements with the other participants (as the game progresses, we gain higher ranks).
It is worth noting that Dota Underlords supports the cross-play function - multiplayer battles can be played with users from any of the platforms on which the game was released. Moreover, the progression system is common on all devices - the progress achieved on the smartphone, for example, will be transferred to the PC version (and vice versa).
Technical aspects
Dota Underlords features decent three-dimensional visuals, adopting a characteristic comic book-like style. The game is full of vivid colors and exaggerated character designs, the latter being inspired by Dota 2, set in the same universe.

Dota records a rather poor launch into 2020. In the last 30 days, Dota 2 has recorded the lowest number of people in the game in over six years. That said, only a fraction of the more than 200,000 players who checked Dota Underworlds at launch are playing it now.
