Cyber Sled is an action game developed and published by Namco. The title, released on PS1 console, is a refreshed and expanded version of a game that debuted on arcade machines in 1993.

Story

Cyber Sled takes us back to 2067, when prosperity and ever higher living standards began to lead to the gradual deterioration of the whole society. In search of entertainment, people turned to brutal games, lead by confrontations fought by the pilots of futuristic tanks, i.e. the title Cyber Sleds.

Mechanics

In Cyber Sled we sit at the helm of one of the heavily-armed tanks diversified in terms of appearance, speed, maneuverability, endurance and weaponry. During the struggle we find ourselves in a special arena, and our goal is to eliminate the enemies. Our task is made easier by power-ups scattered around the map, which regenerate the shields, increase radar capabilities or provide additional ammo/weapons. Success requires good knowledge of the arenas, whic are are full of obstacles - they can be used, for example, as cover against opponent's fire. During the game we can observe the action from the camera behind the tank (TPP), as well as from the eyes of its pilot (FPP).

Game modes

Cyber Sled enables us to play solo (AI takes control of our opponents) or in the company of a second player in a local compatitive multiplayer mode.

Technical aspects

Compared to the original arcade version of Cyber Sled, the PS1 version boasts improved graphics - interestingly, the devs enabled the player to switch to the original graphics. As a curiosity, it should be added that the visual sphere of the game was not an asset at the time of its launch.
