Crystal Tales is a project of an independent Warsaw-based Shinra Games studio, which in the industry is known primarily for its development cooperation with One2Tribe and Turbosquid Inc.
The game takes place in the fantastic kingdom of Acaro, which is threatened with extinction. A few years earlier, a brilliant inventor Zorak had discovered a way to revive machines using sacred crystals. However, his practice was considered profanation, and he himself was sentenced to exile and banishment from the kingdom. Burning lust for revenge, he created an army of robots called Kugutsu. Now he has returned to take revenge....
The creators of Crystal Tales prepared three playable characters, each of which was endowed with different skills. Takehiko is fluent in bamboo stick and has mastered the secrets of fire attacks. Mammoth has great strength and holds a shield that can protect itself and others. Shun after a masterful command of shurikenami, which make her a perfect assassin.
In the course of the game, player-controlled heroes travel through vast locations fighting enemies, overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles. The latter are mainly based on manipulating elements of the environment and the use of basic laws of physics.
Crystal Tales has an attractive audiovisual setting. The events are presented from the side view of the camera, characteristic for classic platformers. Two-dimensional graphics in the game bring to mind the associations with such productions as Torchlight and Trine.
