Trine for PC, PS4 and etc. is a very colorful arcade-logic game set in a fictitious, fantasy world. It was developed by Frozenbyte, a company that entered the international game market releasing relatively well-received Shadowgrounds (2005) and Shadowgrounds Survivor (2007).

Story

The story in Trine for PC, PS4 and etc. is set in a fantasy world full of castles and bizarre machinery. The player takes control over one of three characters at a time: a wizard, a thief or a knight. Their task is to save the kingdom from being destroyed by hordes of the undead. This goal can be achieved by using a mysterious tool called Trine.

Gameplay

Trine for PC, PS4 and etc. is a trial to revive the old-school platformer mechanics, but the creators introduced many innovative ideas to the genre as well. Controlling one of the three characters at a time, the player completes subsequent levels moving mainly either to the left or to the right, thus the game resembles old-school platformers. Along the way, the player encounters many dangerous enemies, plenty of traps, puzzles and objects which have to be gotten rid of in order to proceed.

Each of the three playable characters has their unique abilities. The wizard can summon different objects in order to solve puzzles or to clear the way. The thief is exceptionally agile and accurate, so she easily takes the enemies by surprise. The knight has great physical power on the other hand.

Physics are of high importance in the game. The player can construct various items useful in puzzle solving and combat. Such a mechanism diversifies the experience to an increased degree - apart from jumping and fighting, the player has to use their brain as well.

Technical aspects

Those who are fond of magical atmosphere and amazingly colorful locations will certainly appreciate the visuals of the game. The backgrounds are diverse, eye-catching and filled with color. The color palette changes in subsequent levels. The game features well-made character animations and a huge number of frightening enemies.
