Cryptark is a hybrid of roguelike and classic shoot'em up developed by independent studio Alientrap - a team whose portfolio includes the warmly-received Apotheon and popular Capsized. The title was designed for PC and PS4.
Story
In Cryptark, players take on the role of a heavy armoured mercenary whose mission is to infiltrate spaceships belonging to alien civilization and destroy them from inside by blowing up their main cores. His primary goal, however, is to find the eponymous Cryptark, an invaluable artifact for which the corporation employing him is ready to pay a real fortune.
Mechanics
In Cryptark we observe the action from the side. The game consists of exploration of procedurally generated decks of ships and breaking through hosts of different adversaries, whose list includes both smaller units like flying drones and automatic sentry towers, as well as more powerful opponents acting as bosses. To win, we need to develop an appropriate strategy and find gaps in the defense of the opponent. As we progress, we are gaining funds that we can use to buy more and more powerful weapons - the arsenal includes dozens of weapons, including flame throwers, bombs, various cannons and rocket launchers. It is worth remembering, however, that the devss have implemented permadeath mechanics in their work, so after the hero's death we have to start the struggle anew.
Game modes
Cryptark offers the possibility of playing solo or with another player on a shared screen. Our actions are supervised by a scoring system, thanks to which we can shere our result with the whole community.
Technical aspects
Cryptark features two-dimensional graphics adopting a cartoonish style. A dynamic soundtrack was composed for the game, providing effective warm-up to the battle. The game also features recorded dialogue lines.
