Crypt of the NecroDancer
Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony is the second expansion for the unusual roguelike, in which we traverse dungeons to the rhythm of music. The indie team Brace Yourself Games, which developed both the warmly received base game and its prequel in the form of the Amplified DLC, was again responsible for the game.
Early access
As with previous projects, the developer decided to release its work in early access before the "real" release. The authors included only those innovations from Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony, which were considered sufficiently polished. Only later were more mechanics, content, etc. added, with the Brace Yourself Games team promising not to change the price of the expansion after its full release.
Game mechanics
Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony is first and foremost a huge package of new content, not changing much in gameplay. It's still almost a typical roguelike with a permanent death system, in which we explore dungeons, fight monsters (including bosses) and strengthen our character with found treasures. Only that here everything goes on to the rhythm of music: characters and enemies move and attack in a dance matching the playing song.
Three new characters with unique characteristics have made their way into the game. Suzu can move quickly and is immune to damage when attacking with her lance from a run. Chaunter has virtually no health, but can possess enemies and use their abilities. Finally, Klarinetta wields a large two-handed sword with which she can wreak havoc on the board.
Synchrony also means more items, shrines and spells, as well as new enemies, traps, etc., which will make the dancing trip through the dungeons of the titular NecroDancer even more interesting.
Game modes
The most important new feature from Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony is an online multiplayer mode, allowing a group of up to eight players to cooperate or compete over the Internet. In addition, the developers have added full mod support (even several at once) to make it easier for fans to create their own content.
In the case of Versus mode, players do not progress through floors, but face each other on a single procedurally generated map. Depending on the chosen variant, players compete for points (earned for defeated rivals) or until only one character remains on the board. In both cases, the game allows the creation of teams. In addition, there are items and objects on the board not found in the campaign, while others have been slightly modified to improve balance.
