Cool Boarders is a sports game created by UEP Systems. The game was released in 1996 on PS1. At the time of its release, it was one of the first 3D snowboard games; it contributed significantly to the popularization of the genre and became the beginning of a popular series.
Mechanics
In Cool Boarders, the player takes part in snowboard races on five different routes (two of which are initially unavailable and must be unlocked). The main aim of the game is to finish the routes within the time limit, but the production also has the option to collect points by performing a variety of tricks - the best results, both in terms of points and time, are displayed on the ranking list.
Before each ride, the player can choose whether they want to control a man or a woman, dress their avatar and choose the board. The latter choice is particularly important, as each model has different parameters. Despite a rather poor range of snowboarders' capabilities, which includes the options to move left and right, jumping, make sharp turns and grab the board, the title is characterized by a fairly high difficulty level.
Technical aspects
The graphics of Cool Boarders were rather impressive at the time of release, particularly the extensive and detailed slopes. The game is accompanied by a soundtrack consisting of about ten tracks - the player can choose which track they want to listen during each slide.
