Charon's Staircase is a horror adventure game. It was developed by an indie Spanish team Indigo Studios, and it was published by Soedesco.
Plot
Charon's Staircase takes us to a fictional, Central European country where since the 1970s the so-called Ministry has been ruling. It used to rule with a firm hand, but eventually had to change its methods when the country began to strive to join the European Union. The main hero of the game is a Ministry agent named Desmond. The protagonist is sent to the Oak Grove mansion to get rid of secret documents containing information about the Ministry's horrifying activities. When Desmond finds himself on the trail of the macabre Project Alpha, his mission turns into a real fight for life.
Game mechanics
In Charon's Staircase we observe the action from a first person perspective (FPP). Wandering through the gloomy and dark mansion, we solve various puzzles and search for information about the Ministry's former activities (especially Project Alpha). In all of this we are hindered by terrifying opponents, which are the fruits of the Ministry's macabre experiments.
Technical aspects
Graphics in Charon's Staircase looks decent. In many locations bathed in darkness, attention is drawn to various flavors and details; the designs themselves, inspired by the style of Central Europe in the 1970s, may also appeal.
