Call of Duty: Siege for AND and iOS is a strategy containing card game elements. The game uses a free-to-play model with microtransactions. Siege was developed by a subsidiary studio, part of Activision, responsible for Call of Duty: Heroes.
Plot
The action of the game takes place in the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare universe, distinguishable for its science fiction elements. As a result, we are taken into the near future, into times where humanity colonized many alien worlds. The player assumes the role of a captain of Retribution, a star cruiser that is a part of United Nations Space Alliance war fleet, the military wing of an organization founded by humans. When we enter the story, the organization has lost much of its territory to rebels, and our task is to reclaim it.
Mechanics
The game, released for AND and iOS is a real-time strategy, in which we are mainly occupied with attacking enemy bases, which was realized by means of a gameplay mechanics that sort of resembles an inverted tower defense. As a result, during the battles we need to break through the enemy defenses, such as different types of armed turrets, to finally destroy target objects. Our forces are represented by cards. Using them on the map spawns a specific unit, which then proceeds to attack using the shortest way possible. Therefore, the location where we place our soldiers is of utmost importance, as we don’t control their movements. However, we can help them through manual activation of various special abilities.
During the gameplay, we complete our own deck, which can contain over forty types of cards, representing heroes, battle mechs, and flying machines. The ability to upgrade your units is also present. The territories that are taken-over have to be reinforced against future attacks through rebuilding defense structures – these are also represented by acquired cards, which are a part of a separate deck.
Game Modes
Call of Duty: Siege contains a singleplayer campaign, and a PvP mode that lets players play matches against other. Multiplayer games don’t focus on direct combat between units – they consist of attacking enemy bases, and fighting defense structures. The game also contains the ability to create or join clans, called Alliances in the game’s universe.
