A real-time strategy game distributed by using the free-to-play model. The game was developed by DR Studios and it allows the player to lead a civilization through various stages of evolution, since the Stone Age, through antiquity, medieval and renaissance, to the final years of the 19th century. At first the player assumes control of a simple settlement which then expands its size and adds new buildings.

Battle Ages is a simple real-time strategy, in which we lead our civilization through successive periods of development - from the Paleolithic to the end of the 19th century. The game was released on PS4, XONE, etc. in a free-to-play model, and was developed by DR Studios, previously known mainly from various "tycoons". The game is a development and at the same time a continuation of Battle Islands from 2013 which is set only in the World War II.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Battle Ages combines elements of classic PC-based RTS games and contemporary mobile production like Clash of Clans. We start as a leader of a small tribe in the Stone Age, and our task is to develop the settlement by erecting and improving farm and military buildings, conducting research on new technologies and training the army. Along with the progress, we are able to expand the main base and, consequently, jump to the next stage of development. The game offers a journey through six major historical epochs, from the Palaeolithic, through ancient history, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, to the industrial revolution. Each of them gives access to completely new buildings, units and technologies.

Unlike classic RTS games, Battle Ages (like its predecessor) has simplified the military layer quite a lot. Despite the fact that victories in battles are one of the key elements of the game, during the fight we have no direct control over the army, and the outcome of the battle depends primarily on the size of the army and the type of units used. Additionally, the whole gameplay has limitations typical to free-to-play games, i.e. time limit for building or upgrading structures. At the initial stage of the game, this time limit lasts up to several dozen seconds, but later it can be extended to several hours or even days. This time can, of course, be shortened by using the premium currency purchased for real money (a microtransaction system).

Game modes

Like Clash of Clans, Battle Ages allows you to smoothly switch from single to multiplayer mode. During the game, we can complete story missions or switch to PvP mode and attack a randomly selected opponent at any moment. Both methods are the main source of currency necessary for the development of our civilization.

Technical aspects

In terms of the graphics, Battle Ages, released on PS4, XONE, etc. was done in a similar style as its predecessor from 2013, and the main difference is smaller and more detailed buildings. The game works in 1080p resolution and runs at 60 frames per second, but due to its mobile character, it looks slightly better on smaller screens of mobile devices.
