Battle Academy 2
Battle of Kursk is the subtitle of the first expansion to well-received turn-based strategy game Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front. The expansion was developed by Slitherine company and, just like the original game, was made available to PC owners and users of iOS mobile devices.
Plot
The game is historically set during the eponymous Battle of Kursk, known as the greatest panzer battle in world’s history. It took place in the summer of 1943; both sides of the conflict had hoped it to become a breakthrough for them. As the odds slowly begun to sway toward the side of the Allies on most fronts of the World War 2, Germans decided that they had to regain the initiative on the Eastern Front and thus they engaged almost all advanced mechanized divisions they had, in order to launch a surprise attack on Kursk from both north and south. The Russians defending Kursk, however, foresaw the enemy’s plans and kept shattering enemy squadrons one by one as they were approaching the city, and managed to keep the Germans at bay.
Mechanics
Battle Academy 2: Battle of Kursk lets you stand on one of the two sides of the conflict, either taking control of German tanks forcing their way through endless lines of trenches and bunkers of the enemy or the heroic Soviet defenders trying to repel the offensive. Following the suggestions of the game community, subsequent missions are tied to one another. This means that the loss you take in one battle carries over to the next one, which may result in a situation when your initially strong strike force becomes too weak for the ultimate push.
Apart from these additional missions, Battle Academy 2: Battle of Kursk offers new units on both sides of the conflict. On the German side these are Elefant and Brummbar cannons as well as Nashorn and Stu42 tanks, while on the Russians get Su-76l cannon as well as Churchill III and Valentine tanks borrowed from the British.
